Down a goal and down to 10 men, the Carl Sandburg College men’s soccer team staged a second-half rally to defeat Lincoln Land 3-2 on Wednesday afternoon and remain unbeaten.

The Chargers (2-0-1) trailed 2-1 in the second half when Mohamed Elshafie (Miami, Fla./Immaculata LaSalle) was sent off with his second yellow card of the match. But Sandburg responded in spectacular fashion, getting the equalizer moments later on a deflection by Andres Caceres (Miami, Fla./Immaculata LaSalle) in the 76th minute. Caceres then delivered the game-winner in the 78th minute by converting a penalty kick.

Kyle Neacy (Bunbury, Australia/SEDA) gave the Chargers a 1-0 advantage in the 26th minute before the Loggers scored in the 27th and 36th minutes to take a 2-1 lead into halftime.

Sandburg won despite Lincoln Land having a 10-9 advantage in shots on goal and a 7-4 advantage in corners.

Felipe Petry (Barao, Brazil/Instituto Estadul de Educacao) and Iker Sanchez (Miami, Fla./Immaculata LaSalle) each played in goal for the Chargers, with Petry making four saves and Sanchez three.
